This limber pine is located in south western Alberta along the Crowsnest Highway and east of the municipality Crowsnest Pass. It has been there for approximately seven centuries. Named the Burmis Tree after a coal-mining town that thrived in the early 1900s, this tree has become a symbol of strength and perseverance.
After dying in the late 1970s, the tree remained standing until 1998 when it was toppled over by the wind. The Crowsnest community refused to leave it lying and came together to raise and stabilize the tree. Stainless steel brackets now anchor the roots with rods drilled deep into the sandstone. A pipe has also been inserted into the trunk for further support. The community has also rallied together against vandalism and threats of developing construction to preserve this beloved tree.
The Burmis tree stands as a natural inspiration, its distinct shape recognized by many from afar. Earth’s Revolution is proud to continue its legacy.
